Mark has had the privilege of being a financial planner since 1995. As founder of Timothy in 2000, Mark’s primary role is long term vision casting for the firm along with serving a small group of clients. He relies heavily on his amazing team and partners for the management of Timothy and the serving of the firm's clients.
Mark's passions for Timothy revolve around making it a world class financial planning firm. Through reading, talking and testing Mark & the team love to push the boundaries of service. As a result of our growth and longevity Mark has been asked to be on Kitces' Advisor Success Podcast (Session 64 and 389), the Morningstar Longview podcast hosted by Christine Benz (March 28, 2023 & November 19, 2024), as well as interviewed by a variety of publications. Ironically, Mark participates in no social media other than attempting to keep his LinkedIn profile current.
His other work passion focuses on being a spokesperson for those who practice financial planning while charging solely for their time. He continues to believe hourly provides the perfect balance of client value with company profitability. He and friend Matthew Jackson, CFA co-wrote A Matter of Time to help aide others who might be interested in pursuing this approach.
Outside of work he serves on various for profit and non-for-profit boards and maintains a joyfully busy life with his family, church and community. Mark and his wife, Cheryce, live in Wheaton, Illinois. They have the gift of three sons, Joshua, Ryan (Jacki) and Luke, along with a new grandson Hudson.

Participants in this panel will share their experiences (the good, the bad and the ugly!) using artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Panelists will share a wide variety of examples, including how they've used AI for everything from boosting their marketing efforts, generating compelling content and eye-catching graphics, to building that dry and dreaded compliance manual. We'll hear too how panelists have used AI to sift through large documents and videos, either to find just the right data point, or to generate time-saving summaries. We'll see examples of how AI tools have been used to build Excel models for help in analyzing client scenarios. And we'll see how AI tools can also be used to help generate illustrations for clearer, more compelling client presentations. Regardless of whether you're feeling excited or wary about what's to come with artificial intelligence, please join us for this thought-provoking panel!

What if your middle-market clients could legally and ethically implement the same tax-saving frameworks used by billionaires and family offices? In this session, we'll break down the elite frameworks and specific strategies of the ultra-wealthy — and show you exactly how to translate them into actionable tactics for your everyday investor.
You’ll learn how to:
“Business-ify” Your Client's Life: Spot the opportunities hiding in plain sight to turn hobbies, passions, or family activities into legitimate business ventures that unlock major tax advantages.
Zoom Out to Save Big: Use a top-down tax planning model that leverages gains in one area of your clients life to fund strategic, loss-generating assets in another — just like high-net-worth families do.
Stack Smart with the Four Tiers of Investment Tax Strategy: Implement a layered approach that blends market-based growth, income-producing assets, alternatives, and moonshots to maximize tax efficiency and opportunity.
Play “Moneyball” with the IRS: Discover how stacking micro and macro deductions, credits, and strategic timing can shift your client’s tax position dramatically — even without owning a yacht or private jet.
Give Like the Wealthy: Master the tax saving mechanics of using Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs), Charitable Remainder Trusts, and other structures that create legacy impact and immediate tax savings.
If you’ve ever wished you could offer your clients more creative, dynamic, and forward-thinking tax strategies — without needing a billionaire’s balance sheet — this session is for you. Come learn how to radically rethink tax planning from a wealth-building lens.
